The Capricorn New Moon feels overloaded with potential. The coming year can be molded in any way we choose. Capricorn’s drive and determination pushes us to almost believe that a New Year is a New You.
So, instead of going shopping for divination tools, take a moment and think about your own interests, hobbies, goals, and personality and consider if there might be something in your home that you could use instead.
Maybe you’re into books. Notice titles in the wild, or open a random book to a random page and search for meaning. That’s bibliomancy.
Maybe you’re the meditative type. Sit and watch as the sunlight throws shapes and shadows through the window and onto the wall. What might this mean? Is the light directing you somewhere? Is it fluttery or staid? Animal shaped? What message might sunlight be sending?
I began my study of tea leaves after I got hooked on looseleaf blends. Seemed a shame to let all those otherwise inaccessible answers go to waste.
Ideally, for our purposes of reframing and reimagining, you’ll make up your own divination method culled from your everyday life, then sanctify it by adding “-mancy.” Defined as:
combining form suffix: -mancy divination by a specified means.
Stains-on-the-wall-omancy, Hairomancy, Dustomancy, Stitchomancy…
Set some time aside on the new moon to explore your new practice, making use of the dark sky to better see the stars (literally or metaphorically). Open yourself to the possibility of being guided by celestiality, dancing to the cellular-level choreography of our galaxy in motion. Open yourself up to the enveloping nebulae of possibility. As astrologer Loli Moon proclaims: “The only possibilities you’re aware of are the ones that already exist in your mind.”
