Genesis P-Orridge isn’t easy to write about. An extremely prolific, variously pronoun-ed, transmedia artist and philosopher who, by design, changed course at will, projects expanding, contracting, abandoned when they got too popular. It’s hard to boil down a life like Gen’s, and I think that’s what Gen would have wanted. To exit the ‘cheap flesh suitcase’ of the material world and leave as legacy an undefinable life that defies catch-phrase-worthy descriptions, maintaining, in life and death, what Gen called a “state of flux”.
In 1976 though, Genesis P-Orridge was given a label that might stick. Conservative Member of Parliament Nicholas Fairbairn called Gen and the other members of their COUM Transmissions collective “wreckers of civilisation.”
