Vernal Equinox - National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service

As we approach Ostara — Equinox, day of light and dark, a breath of balance — we know more than ever that we need your help.

We need each other, we need every seed, every tenderness, ever act of bravery, every dose of honest rage, grief, tenderness, and adoration.

We need your voices in our ears.

So here's the invitation:

Write a spell. Record it. (Voice Memo app Apple | Android.)

Email to missingwitches@gmail.com (Subject line: Ostara Spell.)

Deadline: March 14, 2025.

THE ONLY RULE IS: YOUR SPELL MUST RHYME.

We will edit these into one exquisite corpse style collaborative spell poem, which will be published on the Missing Witches Podcast for Ostara 2025.

Your spell can be as long or as short as you like - one verse or seven or thirteen? - however many words you need.

It can be a spell for protection, resistance, abundance, ease.

Consider invocation, calling in, adoration, praise, plea, releasing.

It's totally up to you.

We encourage you to include an action in your spell poem, i.e. when I do this, that will happen, like Shakespeare's three witches: and by the pricking of my thumb, something wicked this way comes.

THE ONLY RULE IS: YOUR SPELL POEM MUST RHYME.

You can use any rhyme scheme you like, it doesn't have to be ABCB or AA BB, but your spell poem MUST RHYME somehow, some way.

For inspiration, check out this article, or this one, or one of our favourite books, Poetry As Spellcasting.

Above all, don’t put pressure on yourself. Think about the fun and ease of nursery rhymes and channel that energy if that feels good. Think of the directness and simplicity of couplets. Think of the rhyming politics of Hip Hop. BUT definitely don’t feel like you have to be the next Shel Silverstein, William Blake or Chuck D.

Remember, your spell will be braided in with many other voices. We don't have to do this alone.

NOTE: Our Call for Submission for Spells of Resistance and Re-enchantment for the Missing Witches Zine remains open. We have been electrified by the response and we are publishing your contributions on a rolling basis. Check out the Zine.

New Moon in Pisces: Drawing Down Divination

Thursday, Feb 27, 8:00 PM - 09:30 PM EST

For this circle, come prepared to move your body in whatever ways feel possible and celebratory for you. For a portion of this call, Amy will DJ and we will dance together to make a circle in the ether, to celebrate that we are alive and together and that the future is not written.

We invite you to bring art tools of your choosing (drawing, writing, clay, whatever) as well as a divinatory tool (tarot, oracle cards, bones, etc.)

"Revelry is a route toward revelation" writes Christopher Marmolejo. "Pleasure is a prophecy because it propels our living rather than our dying."

Together we'll revel, and draw down maps for the future." Hosted by Amy + Risa.

Happy love weekend, coven. Please know that you and all your kin are deeply loved. Whisper it to yourself, to the wind, on the phone to your congressperson: We are many, we demand justice, we dream the future, we are not alone.
