In the spirit of reparations, each year Missing Witches donates our May earnings and organizes a special fundraiser episode to support the Native Women’s Shelter of Montreal.
We're trying to root ourselves into the land we live on and to grow into a relationship with all the spirits here, but it's brutally obvious how much the "new age" has engaged in an extractive relationship with Indigenous knowledge and people.
So we're trying to do better, or at least not fuck it up too much. As part of that work, we regularly turn to indigenous people - witches and other magic makers - to center and learn from.
And in May, we organize a great big raffle fundraiser. Members from our community have overwhelmed us with their desire to support this wave of love, donating prizes for the raffle, donating ad spots on their glorious podcasts and newsletters, making donations to causes in their area, and spreading the word.
In 2023 we raised over $10000, and this year we hope to do even better.
Here's how it works:
We gather prizes throughout the month of April — we love to spotlight readings, classes, artists, poets and more — we spotlight each prize on the podcast and on social media and everywhere! If you'd like to get involved we'd LOVE your help, write to us at missingwitches@gmail.com.
Meanwhile, folks who want to participate in the fundraiser and snag an entry in the raffle make a donation of ten dollars or more to the Native Women’s Shelter of Montreal, or their local indigenous people’s support organization.
Then take a screenshot of the receipt and email it to missingwitches@gmail.com with the subject line DONATION, plus the amount of your donation.
The amount is important because for every $10, you get one entry into the raffle for incredible prizes. So if you donate $20, you’ll be entered twice, for $50, you’ll get five entries, and so on.
If everyone donates locally, together we can make an impact globally.
